The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is conducting the campaign in coordination with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and local airport stakeholders. It covers passenger facilitation, cleanliness, security, digital services and staff interaction.

At Pune Airport, the campaign is being led by Airport Director Santosh Dhoke. The initiative has been expanded from a one-day event held last year to 24 days this year, with each day focusing on a particular part of the passenger experience.

On September 22, Day 6 of the campaign, the focus at Pune Airport was on wayfinding, Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS) and passenger information.

AAI officials audited directional signs across the terminal for visibility, language clarity and consistency. Directions to restrooms, exit gates, transfer areas and helpdesks were made clearer.

Officials also checked FIDS screens, information displayed for gates and baggage belts, and boarding announcements.

What the campaign covers

The 24-day programme includes cleanliness around airport approach areas, parking management, terminal seating, drinking water and other public amenities. Assistance for Divyangjan and senior citizens is also part of the campaign.

Passengers will be guided on the use of Digi Yatra, free airport Wi-Fi and self-service kiosks, with assistance desks planned during peak hours.

The campaign also covers baby-care rooms and support for first-time flyers. Pune has four regional connectivity routes where assistance with the check-in process is among the areas being addressed.

Food outlets inside terminals will be checked for hygiene and display of rate lists. Health check-ups for sanitation workers, reduction of single-use plastics and measures to optimise energy consumption are also included.

Frontline personnel will undergo hospitality training focused on courtesy and empathy. Airlines, security personnel, ground staff and airport management will also conduct joint terminal walkthroughs to identify operational bottlenecks.

On September 27, World Tourism Day, airports will hold cultural showcases of regional heritage under the slogan “Atithi Devo Bhava”. A Shramdaan cleanliness drive is scheduled for October 2, Gandhi Jayanti.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu is also scheduled to make surprise visits to four airports during the campaign to review operations.

The Yatri Seva Abhiyan concludes on October 10.
