Mahavitaran Uses AI to Detect Electricity Theft; 27,964 Cases Uncovered in Three Months
Pune, September 28, 2026: Mahavitaran has started using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to curb electricity theft across Maharashtra, uncovering 27,964 cases in the three months from June to August.
Of these, electricity theft has been confirmed in 24,508 cases, involving an amount of Rs 66.28 crore.
The technology is being used to identify suspicious electricity consumption patterns and detect possible cases of power theft.
According to Mahavitaran, the drive has been carried out across the state, from Mumbai, Pune and Nashik to Nagpur. More than 110 teams are working across Maharashtra as part of the action against electricity theft.
