Weather Forecast: A Five-Day Outlook

Starting today, April 22, the IMD predicts a consistent pattern of atmospheric instability across the district. The forecast for the next 96 hours highlights:

  • Thunderstorms and Lightning: Isolated areas are expected to witness active electrical storms.
  • Rainfall: Light to moderate rain showers are likely to provide temporary relief from the heat but may disrupt evening commutes.
  • Gusty Winds: Winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected, posing a risk to temporary structures and loose installations.

By the fifth day, the intensity is expected to slightly subside into lighter rain and general thundershower activity.

The alert follows a period of intense heat across the Pune region. On April 21, Lavale recorded the highest maximum temperature at 39.6°C, followed closely by Dudulgaon at 39.2°C. Shivajinagar sat at a steady 38.0°C, while Chinchwad and Pashan both recorded 38.4°C.

Minimum temperatures recorded this morning, April 22, show a warm start to the day, particularly in Chinchwad (26.5°C) and Wadgaonsheri (26.4°C). In contrast, locations like Shirur saw a significantly cooler low of 20.0°C.

Safety Advisory

The “Yellow Alert” serves as a signal for authorities and citizens to “be updated.” The IMD suggests:

  1. Staying indoors during lightning strikes.
  2. Securing loose objects on balconies or terraces that could be displaced by gusty winds.
  3. Commuters should remain cautious of reduced visibility and slippery roads during sudden spells of moderate rain.
