IMD Declares Arrival of Monsoon in Pune, Ending a Record-Breaking Dry Spell

Pune, June 22, 2026: After a delay of 14 days, monsoon has finally arrived in Pune. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed the onset of monsoon over Pune district.

This delayed arrival the end of the driest first half of June since 1958 in Pune. The district was reported to be running an 83% rainfall deficit by mid-June, with only about 13.9 mm of rain received against the seasonal norm.

According to IMD, the Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through 19°N/60°E, 19°N/65°E, 18.8°N/70°E, Alibag, Pune, Nizamabad, Dantewada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Chatra, Gaya, Muzaffarpur and 28.3°N/83°E as on 22nd June, 2026.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, remaining parts of Telangana and Odisha, some more parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar during next 48 hours, reported IMD.

Yesterday on June 21, the city was lashed by thunderstorms and heavy rain with many weather stations recording significant rainfall. Notably, NDA recorded 78.5 mm, Shivajinagar 18.5 mm, Hadapsar 8.5 and Pashan 4.0 mm.
