Pune, September 06, 2026: Hundreds of IT employees, residents, school students and villagers gathered on Sunday to participate in a silent march to draw the attention of authorities towards the crumbling civic infrastructure in Hinjawadi IT Hub, located on the western outskirts of Pune.
They were protesting against bad condition of roads, water scarcity, broken footpaths and bus shelters, frequent waterlogging, and poor drainage and garbage collection.
The protest was in the form of a peaceful silent march, starting at the Infosys Circle, moving up to Shivaji Chowk and returning. The participants carried placards and remained peaceful and did not indulge in shouting, sloganeering or disruptions of any kind.
There were IT employees, women, school children, residents and the local villagers, all walking together, demanding better infrastructure in Hinjawadi.
The march was named as Smart IT City Sankalp Mook Morcha by the organizers. The protest was organized to stress on nine major demands to the administration including, road land acquisition, formation of a separate civic body, starting of Metro Line 3, drinking water supply, better traffic management and regular coordination by district authorities.
In a preemptive response, the district and state administration had announced an infrastructure upgrade package worth Rs. 426 crore and promised immediate resolution of the issues highlighted. However the protest march went ahead anyways to ensure that government acted on its promises.
The protest march was attended/supported by many politicians as well, supporting the people of Hinjawadi on their demands for better civic infrastructure.
The protest and the march remained peaceful without any incident of violence or disruption reported anywhere.
