Pune, October 01, 2026: Eight students from Alandi in Pune district are reported to have drowned in sea at Dighi Port, Diveagar beach in Shrivardhan Taluka of Raigad district.

According to the information received, there was a group of 48 students who had gone to Diveagar beach for a trip and eight of them ventured into the sea and misjudged the current.

Local water sports personnel immediately began a rescue operation, risking their own lives but the students were swept into the sea and could not be saved.

These students were from a private coaching, Winners Academy in Alandi, and were on a trip to the coastal town. The group of 48 consisted of 25 boys, 17 girls and six teachers.

They went to the beach at around 5.30 pm on Thursday and eight students who ventured into the sea were pulled in by the strong current. Police said the bodies of the victims, all of whom were around 16 years of age, have been recovered.

It was a chaotic and disturbing scene at the beach. Some were seen desperately trying to administer CPR to the affected children while others were rubbing their feet while praying for a miracle to revive the victims.

Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar immediately instructed the district and police administrations of Pune and Raigad districts to oversee recue operations.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid tributes to the victims saying the incident was extremely tragic and heart-wrenching.
