Pune Metro Line 3, also known as the Puneri Metro or Pink Line, will begin commercial operations on November 4, 2026, connecting Hinjawadi IT Park with the District and Sessions Court in Shivajinagar. PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari and Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited CEO Anilkumar Saini have confirmed that preparations for the inauguration are complete. Initially, 17 of the corridor’s 23 elevated stations will open to passengers, offering relief to thousands of commuters travelling between Hinjawadi and central Pune.

The project has an estimated cost of ₹8,313 crore and has been developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model through a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) framework.

Pune Metro Line 3: Daily Operating Hours and Ticket Fares

PMRDA Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari has stated that Pune Metro Line 3 will operate daily between 6 AM and 11:40 PM.

The minimum ticket fare has been fixed at ₹12, while the maximum fare will be ₹62. Since the project follows the PPP model, fares have been determined under the concession agreement.

Officials have said that a detailed fare chart will be published, shared with the press and displayed at all stations so passengers can check the charges for different journeys.

During an interview, Chaudhari said passengers would have several ticketing options, including WhatsApp, mobile applications, ticket counters and vending machines. (Pune News)

The following ticketing facilities will be available:

  • Maha Metro Pune 1 mobile application
  • WhatsApp ticketing
  • Ticket counters at metro stations
  • Automatic ticket vending machines
  • Existing Maha Metro smart cards

Pune Metro Line 3: First and Last Train Timings

Passenger services are scheduled to begin at 8 AM on November 4. The first train from Maan towards District and Sessions Court will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the journey.

The last train from District and Sessions Court towards Maan is scheduled to depart at 10:40 PM.

The daily operating hours announced by the PMRDA Commissioner are 6 AM to 11:40 PM. The specific first and last train timings for the two directions will determine the actual departure schedule for passengers.

17 Stations to Open Initially

The 23-km elevated corridor connects Maan and Hinjawadi IT Park with Shivajinagar and the District and Sessions Court.

Initially, 17 of the 23 stations will become operational. Balewadi High Street and Balewadi Phata stations are expected to open towards the end of November or early December 2026.

The complete corridor is expected to become operational by January 2027.

At the District and Sessions Court station, passengers will be able to interchange between Pune Metro Line 3 and the existing metro network comprising Lines 1 and 2.

Train Frequency and Passenger Capacity

Pune Metro Line 3 will operate with 22 train sets, each comprising three coaches and accommodating approximately 1,000 passengers, including standing passengers.

The planned frequency will be:

  • Peak hours: One train every six minutes.
  • Non-peak hours: One train every 10 to 12 minutes.

The integration of Line 3 with the existing metro network is expected to improve connectivity for commuters travelling across different parts of Pune.

Last-Mile Connectivity, Parking and Feeder Services

Addressing concerns about last-mile connectivity, PMRDA Commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari said parking facilities have been provided at stations wherever sufficient space is available. Dedicated drop-off zones have also been created at every station.

PMRDA is coordinating with Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), private concessionaires, vendors and auto-rickshaw associations to improve passenger connectivity.

Feeder bus services are also being planned. Discussions are underway with MIDC, auto-rickshaw unions and private operators regarding additional routes, including connectivity between Ramwadi and Kharadi IT Park.

Improving pedestrian pathways around metro stations is another part of the project. A separate infrastructure project for pedestrian facilities is being executed by PMRDA and MIDC.

All Train Operators to Be Women

One of the key features of Pune Metro Line 3 is its focus on women’s empowerment.

Chaudhari said all train operators on the Pink Line would be women, who would operate the trains from the first day of commercial services.

He also described the project as an eco-friendly metro system.

Security and Project Progress

Officials have confirmed that trial runs, ticketing system tests, safety certifications and staff training have been completed ahead of the launch.

The project recorded 98.20% physical progress by October 2026. Around 340 security personnel have been deployed across the 17 stations scheduled to open initially.

With commercial operations starting on November 4, Pune Metro Line 3 is expected to provide an alternative to road transport for commuters travelling between Hinjawadi, Maan and Shivajinagar, particularly those working in the Hinjawadi IT Park. (Pune News)
