Heavy Rain Alert: Schools Closed on July 06 in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri
MUMBAI / PUNE: Parents and students take note: schools and colleges across Mumbai and several coastal districts of Maharashtra will remain closed today, Monday, July 6, 2026, due to a severe weather warning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for Mumbai, predicting heavy rainfall and gusty winds throughout the day. To ensure student safety, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has declared a holiday for all government, private, and municipal schools and colleges in the city today.
BMC officials have also appealed to citizens to stay indoors and only step out of their homes if absolutely necessary.
District-Wide Closures The heavy rain warning extends well beyond Mumbai. The IMD has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy downpours expected in isolated places, across the Konkan belt and neighboring districts.
Local administrations have quickly moved to declare a holiday today for all anganwadis, balwadis, as well as government, semi-government, and private primary and secondary schools of all mediums in the following areas:
- Pune
- Thane
- Palghar
- Raigad
- Ratnagiri
However, teachers and principals are directed to be present on duty in the schools to assist with disaster management services, if needed.
