Holiday Declared For All Schools In Pune District Due to Heavy Rain Alert; Traffic Police Issue Advisory

The Pune district administration has declared a holiday on July 06 in all schools in the district due to heavy rain alert by Indian Meteorological Department.

An advisory from the District Collector’s office said, “The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Pune district on July 6, 2026. In view of the possible heavy rainfall, as a precautionary measure for the safety of students, holidays have been declared for all schools in the district.”

The advisory further stated that the citizens should also avoid stepping out of their homes except for essential tasks, stay away from rivers, drains, and hazardous places, and strictly follow the instructions issued from time to time by the local administration.

Meanwhile Pune Traffic Police have announced that as per ATMS and TrafficCure data, the average traffic speed in Pune on July 05 has been painfully slow at 20 km/hr, with morning peak speed at 18.5 km/hr and evening peak speed at 15.7 km/hr.

Pune Traffic Police Advisory

Due to heavy rainfall, traffic congestion is expected at major junctions and important corridors. The most affected corridors are:

  • Tilak Road: Alka Chowk to Swargate
  • Shastri Road: Alka Chowk to Dandekar Bridge
  • Shivaji Road: AISSMS to Swargate
  • JM Road: Modern College to Khandoji Baba Chowk
  • FC Road: Goodluck Chowk to Dnyaneshwar Paduka Chowk
  • Karve Road / Paud Road: Paud Phata and Khandoji Baba Chowk area
  • SB Road: Athavale Chowk and Shivaji Housing Society area
  • Solapur Road: Sopan Baug, St. Mary and Swargate side
  • Satara Road: Market Yard to Katraj Naka

Similarly the important areas expected to have traffic congestion are:

  • Pune Station Area
  • Alankar Chowk
  • Council Hall Chowk
  • Wadia College Chowk
  • Bund Garden Area

Important Guidelines for Commuters

  • Parking & Halting: Do not park or stop your vehicle near junctions, bus stops, flyovers, pedestrian crossings, or waterlogged stretches.
  • Two-Wheelers: Two-wheelers should not take shelter on active traffic lanes, below flyovers, or near signals.
  • Driving Discipline: Avoid wrong-side driving, lane cutting, and sudden braking.
  • Public Transit: Use public transport or carpooling wherever possible. Follow designated pick-up and drop points.
  • Commercial Vehicles: Commercial and delivery vehicles should avoid halting on main corridors during peak hours.
  • Auto-Rickshaw, Cab & Bus Operators: Operators should not stop at signal stop lines or junction corners.
  • Pedestrian & Motorist Safety: Pedestrians should use designated crossings. Motorists must slow down near crossings, schools, markets, hospitals, and bus stops.
  • Compliance: Follow traffic police instructions, route diversions, signboards, and variable message signs.
  • Warning: Vehicles causing obstruction will be towed or penalised.

Heavy rainfall is likely to slow traffic across Pune. If your journey isn’t essential, consider postponing it during peak hours, stated the advisory.

The traffic police authorities urge citizens to use ATMS and TrafficCure Apps (available on Play Store and App Store) to get information about live traffic situation in the city.
