Census 2027: Over 8,000 Pune Residents Complete Self-Enumeration on Historic First Day
PUNE, May 1, 2026 – The launch of Census 2027 in Pune district has seen an overwhelming initial response, and according to some media reports, more than 8,000 residents completed self-enumeration within the first 24 hours of the process, officials confirmed today.
This marks the first time in India’s history that citizens have been given the option to digitally file their household census details independently, without waiting for a field enumerator.
The self-enumeration window, part of the census’s initial phase, remains open until May 15, 2026, via the official government portal at https://se.census.gov.in. Participation in this online phase is voluntary. The process, which takes approximately 15–20 minutes, requires no document uploads. Upon completion, a Self-Enumeration ID (SEID) is automatically generated and sent to the user’s registered mobile number or email.
Additional District Collector Satish Raut urged all citizens to take part, emphasizing the critical role of accurate data. “The census is a vital national exercise conducted under the Census Act, 1948. Reliable data collection is essential for evidence-based policymaking and the balanced development of our district,” he said.
For those unable to participate online, traditional enumeration will follow from May 16 to June 14, 2026, with officials visiting households directly. To ensure smooth operations, the district has trained nearly 13,000 field staff, including enumerators and supervisors.
Authorities have also moved to address privacy concerns, assuring residents that robust security measures, including encryption, multi-level authentication, and restricted access, are in place to protect all submitted data.
Citizens are being encouraged not only to complete their own census forms but also to motivate neighbours and community members to participate.
