An intense close-up shot from a viral video showing a woman in a black baseball cap and t-shirt confronting Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan on a crowded Mumbai street. The woman is gesturing emphatically with her finger while speaking to the minister, who wears a light blue shirt and appears to be responding amidst a crowd of onlookers, supporters, and media personnel holding microphones and smartphones.

MUMBAI – The Mumbai Police have officially dismissed reports suggesting that a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against a woman who confronted Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan during a traffic jam in Worli earlier this week.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, saw an agitated commuter step out of her vehicle to scold the BJP leader and police personnel. The confrontation took place during the “Jan Aakrosh” rally organized by the Mahayuti alliance, which had brought traffic near Jamboori Maidan to a standstill during peak hours.

Official Clarification

Following widespread social media speculation and news reports claiming the woman had been booked, the Mumbai Police issued a formal statement on Friday via their official X (formerly Twitter) handle to set the record straight.

“No FIR has been registered against the lady. We request you and everyone to verify the facts from official channels before posting on social media and refrain from spreading misinformation.”Mumbai Police Official Statement

While a formal complaint was indeed submitted at the Worli Police Station by Zen Sadavarte (daughter of advocate Gunratna Sadavarte) alleging “obstruction of public duty” and “abusive language,” the police clarified that they have not converted this complaint into an FIR.

The Incident Recap

The viral video of the encounter showed the woman, who was reportedly on her way to pick up her child, shouting at Minister Mahajan: “Get out of here. You are causing a traffic jam.” She questioned why a political rally was being held on an arterial road instead of a nearby open ground.

Minister Mahajan, speaking to reporters after the incident, acknowledged the citizen’s frustration. “The lady was frustrated due to the traffic, which is understandable. However, her language was inappropriate,” he stated, while also clarifying that he would not be seeking any legal action personally.

Action Against Organizers

In a notable turn of events, while the citizen remains uncharged, the Mumbai Police have reportedly initiated a case against the rally organizers. The organizers are being scrutinized for violating protest norms, exceeding permitted timelines, and causing significant public inconvenience.

The police have urged citizens to remain cautious of “fake news” and to rely on verified departmental updates regarding legal proceedings.
