PMC Intensifies Anti-Encroachment Drive in Warje-Karve Nagar; 5 Truckloads of Items Seized
PUNE: In a major crackdown against unauthorized structures and street vendors, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted a massive joint anti-encroachment drive in the Warje-Karve Nagar ward office jurisdiction on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
The operation, spearheaded by the Encroachment Elimination Department and Zone 3 officials, targeted illegal businesses operating along the Mutha riverbed, Karve Nagar, and DP Road. The drive saw a heavy deployment of municipal officers, staff, Maharashtra State Security Force (MSSF) personnel, and laborers.
Support was also provided by the Dhankawadi-Sahakar Nagar ward office to ensure the smooth execution of the clearance.
Massive Seizure of Goods
The scale of the operation resulted in the seizure of five truckloads of commercial materials. According to official data, the confiscated items include:
- Handcarts: 9
- Gas Cylinders: 22
- Stalls/Patharis: 46
- Iron Nets/Grills: 10
- Other Equipment: 20 (including counters, tables, chairs, statues, and commercial vehicles).
Regular Action Promised
The civic body has warned that this is not a one-off event. PMC officials stated that such drives will be conducted frequently and systematically in the future to ensure that footpaths and roads remain clear for pedestrians and traffic.
Shopkeepers and vendors have been urged to refrain from occupying public spaces illegally to avoid the permanent seizure of their goods and further legal action.
