Voice Against Noise Pollution

Focus on “Silent” Health Threats

The primary objective of the campaign was to highlight the severe health impacts of noise pollution. Organizers emphasized that excessive noise, often dismissed as a mere nuisance, leads to chronic conditions such as:

  • Hearing loss and Tinnitus
  • Increased stress and anxiety levels
  • Sleep disturbances
  • High blood pressure and cardiovascular risks

Residents expressed grave concerns over the rampant use of modified exhausts (silencers), incessant honking, and late-night disturbances in and around the IT park corridors, calling for immediate intervention.

Strict Enforcement Promised

A key highlight of the session was the participation of Sangeeta Jadhav, In-charge of the Yerwada Traffic Division. Accompanied by her enforcement team, Jadhav provided detailed guidance on traffic discipline, the necessity of helmets, and the crackdown on illegal parking.

Addressing the residents’ grievances, Jadhav assured the community of stringent action and consistent monitoring to curb the use of modified silencers and unnecessary honking. The police department also committed to stricter vigilance regarding traffic violations that lead to daily congestion in the area.

Beyond Noise: A Call for Civic Responsibility

The drive also branched out into broader urban challenges affecting Kalyani Nagar. The stakeholders discussed:

  1. Waste Management: Combating littering and irresponsible garbage disposal around commercial zones.
  2. Public Hygiene: Maintaining cleanliness in the vicinity of IT hubs.
  3. Road Obstructions: Preventing illegal encroachments that hinder pedestrian and vehicular movement.

The IT workforce and management were urged to adopt sustainable commuting habits and play an active role in maintaining the sanctity of their workplace surroundings. The organizing committee reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Kalyani Nagar into a cleaner, safer, and healthier suburb through continuous community engagement.
