Traffic Diversions Announced on MG Road

Pune, December 24, 2025: To accommodate the massive crowds expected for Christmas celebrations, the Pune City Traffic Police have announced significant traffic diversions in the Camp (Lashkar) area. The restrictions, aimed at ensuring public safety and smooth vehicular movement, will be in effect on December 24 and December 25, 2025.

According to an official order issued by Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), the changes will be implemented from 7:00 PM onwards on both days and will remain in place until the crowds disperse.

Key Traffic Diversions in Camp:

To prevent congestion on Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road and surrounding areas, the following routes have been modified:

  • From Y-Junction: Traffic heading toward MG Road will be blocked at 15 August Chowk. Commuters will be diverted via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
  • From Iskcon Temple Chowk: Vehicles heading toward Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue and Aurora Towers will be diverted at SBI House Chowk. Motorists should turn right and proceed via Tintofa Chowk toward Lashkar Police Station.
  • From Volga Chowk: The route toward Mohammed Rafi Chowk will be closed. Traffic will instead proceed straight via East Street toward Indira Gandhi Chowk.
  • From Indira Gandhi Chowk: Access to Mahavir Chowk is restricted. Traffic will be diverted toward Lashkar Police Station Chowk.
  • From Sarbatwala Chowk: Vehicles heading toward Mahavir Chowk will be diverted via Taboot Street.

Safety Measures

The traffic police have invoked sections 115 and 116 of the Motor Vehicles Act to enforce these temporary changes. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their travel in advance and use alternative routes to avoid delays during the festive evening.
