NHAI’s New Drive to Promote Clean Toilets on Highways
In a bid to ensure cleaner and more hygienic facilities along India’s highways, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0. The campaign encourages National Highway users to report dirty toilets at Toll Plazas and get rewarded with FASTag recharge worth ₹1,000.

How to Participate in the Clean Toilet Picture Challenge
The initiative is open to all highway users. Participants can report dirty toilets by uploading clear, geo-tagged, and time-stamped photos through the latest version of the RajmargYatra App. Along with the photo, users must provide their name, location, vehicle registration number (VRN), and mobile number.

Each verified report will make the corresponding VRN eligible for a ₹1,000 FASTag recharge reward. The reward will be non-transferable and credited to the linked FASTag account. However, each vehicle registration number will be eligible for only one reward during the entire campaign period.

Validity and Eligibility of Reports
The campaign will remain active till 31st October 2025 and will cover all National Highways across India. Only toilets constructed, operated, or maintained under NHAI’s jurisdiction are eligible. Toilets at dhabas, retail fuel stations, or other public facilities not managed by NHAI are excluded.

In case multiple users report the same toilet on a given day, only the first valid report received through the RajmargYatra App will qualify for the reward. The submissions will undergo AI-assisted screening and manual verification to prevent duplicate or manipulated entries.

Part of Government’s Larger Cleanliness Drive
The Clean Toilet Picture Challenge forms a crucial part of the Special Campaign 5.0, which focuses on improving public infrastructure, transparency, and cleanliness across government establishments.

Under this campaign, NHAI is also working on various initiatives including:

  • Removal of potholes and beautification of flyovers
  • Ensuring cleanliness of toilets at Toll Plazas
  • Installing signage for road safety
  • Beautifying toll plazas with paintings and messages
  • Removing encroachments from the Right of Way

Through this innovative challenge, NHAI aims to engage the public directly in maintaining hygiene standards, making road travel more pleasant for millions of commuters across India.
