A viral video from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra has captured a rare and fascinating wildlife moment – a tiger retreating after spotting a cobra in its path. The brief but dramatic encounter has taken social media by storm, leaving nature lovers amazed by the unpredictable world of the jungle.
The Rare Tiger-Cobra Face-Off
The video, filmed on August 8 last year by Sudhir Charmode, a tour guide at Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, shows the tiger cautiously approaching a muddy creek. Moments later, it freezes upon noticing a cobra lying ahead.
In a defensive display, the cobra raises its hood, clearly ready to strike if threatened. The tiger, sensing the danger, maintains a safe distance instead of attacking or fleeing. The standoff continues for several seconds before the tiger slowly backs away – a rare show of mutual respect between two powerful creatures of the wild.
Eyewitness Account
Charmode, who recorded the encounter, said, “Like a daily routine, I was with my guests on a safari tour. At around 4:30 pm, we witnessed an interesting encounter between a tiger and a cobra. The guests were delighted to see such a rare sight,” he recalled.
