Authorities Warn of Fake India Post Package Delivery SMS Scam, Here’s How it Works

Have you gotten a text about a missed package delivery from India Post lately? You’re not alone. But before you click that link, stop right there. It’s a scam.
A new wave of fraudulent text messages is doing the rounds, pretending to be from the national postal service. The message looks urgent and official. It claims your package is stuck at a warehouse because your address is “incomplete.” It then pressures you to click a link and update your details within 24 to 48 hours, or else your parcel will be sent back.
However, India Post wants you to know this is completely fake. The Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking wing, PIB Fact Check, has officially flagged this message as a fraud. They confirm that India Post never sends such messages asking people to update their address for delivering articles.

The goal of this scam, like many others, is to trick you into clicking that malicious link. Once you do, it could steal your personal information, banking details, or install malware on your phone.
So, what should you do? It’s simple: Never click on such fraudulent links. If you are genuinely expecting a package, track it directly through the official India Post website or app using your consignment number. Legitimate delivery services will never ask you to verify personal details through an unsolicited SMS link.
If you receive this message, the best move is to simply delete it and warn your friends and family to be on the lookout.
