On September 11th, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) carried out a large-scale demolition drive. The target was a cluster of 43 unauthorized huts that had been built directly on the path of a planned 18-meter-wide road. These encroachments, covering a massive 38,750 square feet, had been a persistent hurdle for development.

The operation was a coordinated effort involving multiple civic departments, heavy machinery, and security personnel. Using demolishing equipment, JCBs, and dumpers, crews worked to clear the 200-meter-long strip of land, which is crucial for connecting the area.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh stated that this action was essential for public progress. “Strict action is being taken against unauthorized constructions that hinder development projects,” he said. “Encroachments obstructing the 18-meter road in Wakad-Tathawade have been removed, and work on the road will begin immediately. This will help ease traffic congestion in the area.”

The cleared land is located next to an existing slum rehabilitation project. With the obstructions now gone, the path is clear for the construction of the new road, which is expected to significantly improve traffic flow for residents in Wakad and Tathawade.
