Pune: PMRDA to Construct RCC Road Along Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line, Boosting Traffic Flow & Public Amenities
Pune News, July 22, 2025: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced a major infrastructure upgrade along Metro Line 3, transforming the existing road from Maan (Hinjewadi Depot) to Shivajinagar into a durable cement-concrete (CC) road with improved traffic management and public amenities. The move comes after months of criticism over poor road conditions and waterlogging in the Hinjewadi area due to ongoing metro construction.
Project Overview
The 50 km project (25 km in each direction) will run parallel to the elevated metro line, targeting one of Pune’s busiest traffic corridors. Key improvements include:
- Cement-concrete road construction for durability
- Parking lanes, bus bays, and lay-bys for smoother traffic flow
- Utility ducts for better underground service management
- Enhanced pedestrian facilities for safer walking routes
- Median development and road beautification
- Tree transplantation or removal where necessary
- Land acquisition in certain stretches for widening or realignment
Consultant Appointment & Project Timeline
PMRDA has floated tenders to appoint a consultant responsible for:
- Preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR)
- Conducting surveys, alignment drawings, and drainage plans
- Managing utility coordination (water supply, sewerage, telecom, gas pipelines)
- Drafting tender documents and assisting in pre-bid meetings
- Providing construction supervision and post-construction support
Hindustan Times quoted Umesh Mallawat, Executive Engineer at PMRDA, as saying that the existing metro contractor will first repair the roads to make them motorable before the actual development begins. The consultant’s design and survey phase is expected to take four months, after which construction will commence.
Key Deadlines & Next Steps
- Tender floated on: July 16, 2025
- Pre-bid meeting scheduled for: July 24, 2025
The project aims to enhance last-mile connectivity, reduce congestion, and improve the overall commuter experience in Pune.
