Prashant Pitti Commits Rs 1 Crore to Fix Bengaluru Traffic Using AI and Google Maps
Bengaluru, July 14, 2025 – Prashant Pitti, co-founder of EaseMyTrip, has pledged ₹1 crore to tackle Bengaluru’s notorious traffic congestion using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Google Maps data. Frustrated by his own ordeal of spending 2 hours and 15 minutes to cover just 11 km on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Pitti aims to identify and resolve traffic choke-points through advanced technology.
The Plan to Decongest Bengaluru’s Roads
In a detailed LinkedIn post, Pitti shared his vision to eliminate traffic bottlenecks by leveraging Google Maps’ “Road Management Insight”—a city-level dataset available in Big Query format. This data, combined with satellite imagery, will help pinpoint exact congestion spots and their peak times, allowing authorities to take targeted action.
Key Components of the Initiative:
- Hiring 1-2 senior AI/ML engineers to analyze traffic patterns.
- Funding Google Maps API calls, satellite imagery, and GPU resources for real-time data processing.
- Field pilots to test and implement solutions.
- Open-sourcing the project so other cities can replicate the model.
Pitti emphasized that the project will only begin once the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) provide API access to their raw traffic feeds and assign a dedicated team to act on the insights generated.
A Call for Public Support
Pitti urged citizens and tech professionals to contribute in three ways:
- Tagging officials in the Bengaluru Traffic Office, BBMP, or Traffic Commissioner’s office to ensure the proposal reaches the right authorities.
- AI/ML experts to comment “IN” if they can assist part-time.
- Commuters to share their experiences to amplify the demand for a solution.
“Bengaluru is India’s tech future, and the people making it happen deserve much better,” Pitti stated, highlighting the urgency of resolving the city’s traffic crisis.
Why This Matters
Bengaluru’s traffic congestion has long been a pain point for residents and businesses alike. With Google’s latest traffic management tools and AI-driven analysis, Pitti’s initiative could set a precedent for smart city solutions across India. If successful, the project may not only ease daily commutes but also serve as a blueprint for other metropolitan areas struggling with similar issues.
