Say goodbye to congested highways and hello to stress-free travel! 🚗🚆

The Konkan Railway is set to transform road trips by extending its successful Roll-on Roll-off (Ro-Ro) service for trucks to private vehicles. Soon, you can load your car or SUV onto a train and enjoy a scenic, traffic-free journey to Goa—while relaxing in your own vehicle!

Pilot Launch During Ganpati Festival

The service will be tested during the Ganpati festival this year. Santosh Kumar Jha, Chairman and Managing Director of Konkan Railway, confirmed the plans, stating, “We’ve successfully transported trucks for years. Now, we’ll explore carrying private vehicles too, with some wagon modifications.”

How Will It Work?

Currently, the Ro-Ro service allows trucks to be loaded onto trains via ramps, with drivers traveling inside their vehicles. For private cars, similar logistics will apply, though wagons must be adjusted for smaller dimensions. Key details:

  • Route: Currently operates between Kolad and Mangalore.
  • Loading: Trucks currently arrive at Kolad station for boarding, however for cars, there may be a more convenient station near Mumbai for boarding.
  • Safety Checks: Trucks (and soon cars) undergo height and weight inspections before loading.
  • Minimum Requirement: At least 40 vehicles needed per trip.

Monsoon Preparedness Boost

In another update, Konkan Railway has shortened its monsoon timetable by 10 days (now June 15–October 20) due to improved safety measures like cleaned drains and slope inspections.

This car-on-train concept promises a stress-free, scenic journey to Goa—avoiding traffic while keeping your car with you. Will you try it?
