Pune Experiences Sudden Drop in Night Temperature
Pune, October 29, 2026: On the morning of 28th October, the city woke up to a rather chilly morning with the minimum temperature plunging to 14.9°C.
This was the lowest temperature recorded in October after 2023.
This was also the one of the lowest temperatures recorded in Maharashtra on the intervening night of Oct 27-28.
Earlier since the withdrawal of monsoon, the city has been experiencing minimum temperatures of around 22-24°C and suddenly the temperature dropped by almost 7-8°C on 28th October.
Other weather stations in the district such as Shirur and Haveli recorded 14.3 and 14.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
Weather experts contacted by us attributed the drop in temperature to a sudden change in wind direction, with the winds now blowing from northeasterly direction, bringing cold and dry air into the region.
Clear skies also have played a role. Heat escapes to the sky easily in the absence of moisture and cloud cover, another weather expert said.
However, officials at IMD are anticipating a return to warmer night temperatures as some moisture and cloud cover is expected soon and that will increase the city’s minimum temperature. The minimum temperature in Pune could rise by a few degrees in the next few days.
Sudden drops in temperatures and vast difference between day and night temperatures can cause seasonal allergies and respiratory problems. Doctors advise caution and extra care for the vulnerable such as the young and the elderly.
