The Indian government has announced a massive ring road project worth Rs 15,000 crore, connecting Maharashtra to Karnataka while skirting around Goa to ease congestion on national highways. The project was unveiled by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday, following requests from Goa CM Pramod Sawant and Power Minister Shripad Naik for alternative routes.

Key Highlights of the Ring Road Project

  • The new ring road will run from Patradevi (Goa-Maharashtra border) to Karnataka, avoiding Goa’s interior to reduce traffic pressure.
  • Estimated cost: Rs 12,000–15,000 crore, as per PTI reports.
  • Designed to decongest national highways and improve interstate connectivity.

Eiffel Tower-Inspired Observatory in Goa

During the announcement, Gadkari also laid the foundation stone for an observatory tower on the new Zuari Bridge, modeled after Paris’s Eiffel Tower. The tower will feature:

  • Viewing decks & a restaurant
  • Tourist-friendly amenities
  • Potential to become an international attraction

Gadkari emphasized that the tower could generate significant GST revenue from visitor tickets and suggested showcasing Goa’s liberation history through advanced technology.

Additional Infrastructure Projects in Goa

The minister announced several other high-value projects, including:

  • Rs 1,200 crore for a four-lane road from Cuncolim to Benurdem
  • Rs 2,000 crore for a four-lane road from Karnataka border to Mollem
  • Rs 1,000 crore for four-laning Mollem to Khandekar stretch
  • Rs 1,200 crore for a new bridge near Zuari Bridge at Borim

These initiatives aim to boost tourism, enhance connectivity, and reduce traffic bottlenecks in the region.
