Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms to Continue Across Maharashtra – Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued

Maharashtra Braces for Intense Rainfall and Thunderstorms
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Maharashtra over the next 48 hours, with Konkan and South Madhya Maharashtra regions expected to face the most severe conditions. Multiple districts, including Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Raigad, Kolhapur, Pune, and Satara, are likely to experience intensified rain spells, thunderstorms (TS), lightning, and strong winds gusting up to 50-60 kmph.
Orange Alert for High-Risk Districts
The IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The affected areas include:
- Dharashiv
- Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad)
- Sholapur
- Ghat areas of Satara and Kolhapur
- Ahilyanagar
- Sindhudurg
- Ratnagiri
Residents in these regions should remain cautious as lightning strikes, poor visibility, slippery roads, and water stagnation could lead to hazardous conditions. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated with weather alerts.

Yellow Alert for Mumbai, Pune, and Rest of Maharashtra
While the Konkan and South Madhya Maharashtra regions face the highest threat, the rest of the state, including Mumbai and Pune, remains under a yellow alert. These areas may experience thunderstorms with lightning, isolated heavy rainfall, and gusty winds (50-60 kmph). Though the intensity is expected to be lower, commuters should exercise caution due to potential disruptions.
Precautionary Measures Advised
- Avoid venturing out during intense thunderstorms.
- Stay away from waterlogged areas to prevent accidents.
- Ensure proper drainage around homes to avoid water stagnation.
- Follow official weather updates from IMD and local authorities.
Though the monsoon is yet not active, Maharashtra is likely to witness continued rainfall in the coming days. Residents in high-risk zones should remain vigilant and take necessary safety measures.
