Good News: More Rain Than Usual Expected in 2025 Monsoon

India is likely to get more rain than usual this monsoon season, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The forecast says the country will receive 105% of the normal rainfall between June and September. This means a strong and healthy monsoon, which is great for farmers, water supply, and electricity generation.

Why So Much Rain This Year?

Weather experts say conditions in the oceans are looking good:

  • The Pacific Ocean is showing signs of a weather pattern called La Niña, which usually brings more rain to India.
  • The Indian Ocean is stable and not likely to cause trouble.
  • There’s less snow in the Northern Hemisphere, which also supports stronger monsoons.

Rainfall Won’t Be Equal Everywhere

Even though the overall monsoon looks good, not all parts of the country will get the same amount of rain:

  • Most parts of India are likely to get normal to above-normal rainfall.
  • But some areas in the Northwest, Northeast, and South might get less rain than usual.

Early Monsoon Start?

There’s a chance the monsoon might arrive early this year. Signs show that it could begin over the Nicobar Islands by May 13, possibly because of strong winds from the ocean, which might also bring a cyclone.

Why This Forecast Matters

This forecast was shared at a major climate meeting in Pune, where experts from nine countries came together. These early predictions help farmers, governments, and industries prepare for the season ahead.
