Amul Raises Milk Prices by ₹2 per Litre, New Rates Effective May 1

Amul, India’s leading dairy brand, has announced a price hike of ₹2 per litre across all its milk variants, marking its first increase since June 2024. The new rates will come into effect from May 1, 2025.
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which owns Amul, stated that the adjustment reflects a 3-4% rise in Maximum Retail Price (MRP), which remains below current food inflation levels. The decision follows a similar price increase by Mother Dairy earlier this week.
Amul attributed the milk prices hike to rising production costs, stating that its 36 lakh milk producers have faced increased input expenses. “Our member unions have also raised farmers’ prices proportionally over the past year,” the company said in a release.
Post-revision, a 500ml pouch of Amul Gold will now cost ₹34 in Gujarat, while Amul Shakti (Standard) will be priced at ₹31. Buffalo milk (1 litre) will retail at ₹73, and the ‘Taaza’ variant will be sold for ₹55.
With this Amul milk prices hike, the company aims to balance farmer remuneration with consumer affordability amid rising operational costs.
