Water Leakage at Maan Metro Station Two Days Before Pune Metro Line 3 Inauguration; PMRDA Explains Cause
Pune, November 02, 2026: Rainwater leaked through the ceiling of Maan Metro Station on Sunday evening, November 1, just two days before the inauguration of Pune’s Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro Line 3, raising concerns over construction quality and preparedness ahead of its public opening.
Water seeped into the passenger movement area and concourse, with station staff seen using buckets and floor wipers to collect the water and clear the affected areas.
The incident prompted questions from local residents and IT professionals, who are expected to be among the corridor’s main users. Concerns were raised over whether adequate inspections had been carried out before the station was prepared for public use.
A day before the inauguration, water leakage was reported at Maan Metro station. PMRDA officials say it was a temporary problem as blockage on the terrace led to accumulation of water and seepage through the box between the station box and entry structure. #Pune https://t.co/dUnmvG3jst

Responding to the incident, PMRDA Chief Engineer Rina Pathan said the leakage at PMR-01 station was caused by a temporary blockage in the drainage pipe connected to the terrace slab of the Entry Structure. (Pune News)
According to PMRDA, the terrace slab is exposed to the open sky. Rainwater accumulated on the slab because of the blocked drainage pipe and eventually overflowed. The water then seeped through the gap between the station box and the Entry Structure, becoming visible on the mezzanine level.
Pathan said the temporary blockage had been cleared and rainwater drainage was functioning normally again. She also clarified that the leakage was solely due to the temporary blockage and that there were no defects in the structural elements of either the station box or the Entry Structure.
The Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro Line 3 is being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) in association with the Tata Group and Siemens. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis are scheduled to inaugurate the corridor on November 3.
With the inauguration just days away, the water leakage has brought attention to the station’s drainage arrangements and the need to ensure that passenger areas are ready for public use. (Pune News)
