Tamhini Receives 5269 mm Rain This Season, Overtakes Cherrapunji; Pune Rain Intensity to Reduce from Tomorrow
After many days of intense rainfall in Pune, particularly in the ghat areas, the rain is expected to ease up from tomorrow onwards, at least for now.
IMD has reduced the alert level from red to orange for the ghat areas near Pune. It is noteworthy, that ghats have been under red alert for the past many days and receiving heavy rain.
Tamhini Ghat, a picturesque mountain pass located near Pune, has received 5269 mm of rain so far this monsoon season, overtaking Cherrapunji, the celebrated highest rainfall location in the world!
The urban areas of Pune city on green alert with a prediction of only light to moderate rain from tomorrow onwards.
Besides ghats of Pune, ghats of Satara, Raigad and Ratnagiri also remain under orange alert tomorrow for heavy to very heavy rain.
Rest of Konkan and Mumbai continue to be on yellow alert for widespread heavy to very heavy rains.
Districts of Marathwada and Vidarbha are intermittently on yellow alert for stormy conditions with predictions of thunderstorms, lightening, strong winds and light to moderate rain.
Even though the rains may ease from tomorrow, there is a lot of water flowing into the rivers and streams due to heavy rain ongoing in their catchment areas. It is advisable to avoid travel to the hilly roads and staying away from banks of the river and other water bodies due to slippery surfaces and changing water depths.
