Pune: Traffic diversion near Sancheti Hospital due to pipeline damage from metro construction

Traffic Diversion

PUNE, July 04, 2023: The underpass route in proximity to Sancheti Hospital and Shivajinagar court is now out of commission indefinitely due to a significant water pipeline damage incident. This inconvenience was brought about by ongoing metro work in the city.

According to local officials, the pipeline was inadvertently damaged during the construction activities for the metro line stretch between Shimla Office and Shivajinagar Court. The city’s traffic department was quick to respond, deciding to close the underpass route from July 3, effective between the hours of 11 pm to 6 am, until the situation is resolved.

Efforts have already commenced to repair the damaged pipeline, aiming to restore the situation to normalcy as quickly as possible. However, due to the substantial scale of the work needed, it is not yet known when the route will be reopened.

In light of the situation, the traffic department has suggested alternative routes for commuters in the area. These include the Sancheti Chowk-Engineering College Chowk-RTO route, and the Sancheti Chowk-S G Barve Chowk-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue route. These suggested detours are designed to help mitigate the impact of the closure on commuters’ daily travels.

It is noteworthy that the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been managing the metro line project between Civil Court and Hinjewadi on this route. The impact of this incident on the timeline for the completion of the metro line remains to be seen.

Please keep an eye out for further updates on this issue. We encourage commuters to plan their routes accordingly and allow for possible delays during this period.
