Pune Municipal Corporation Accelerates Pothole Repair as Rainfall Reduces

Pune Pothole Repair

Pune News, July 09, 2023: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has ramped up efforts to repair potholes following a period of heavy rain, managing to fix over 900 in just two days. The Adar Poonawala Trust has also contributed to these efforts by providing road maintenance vans to assist in pothole clearance.

However, despite these initiatives, citizens have reported that potholes are reappearing in areas where the PMC has carried out excavation work for water pipelines.

As the rainfall has lessened over the past few days, the PMC has been able to speed up pothole patchwork, particularly as many roads have developed potholes due to the heavy rain. PMC officials were observed repairing potholes in various parts of the city over the weekend.

V J Kulkarni, the head of the PMC road department, stated that the civic body has decided to repair potholes whenever there is a reduction in rainfall, and this will be a continuous process throughout the monsoon season.

In addition to the pothole repair work, the PMC has also cleared and mechanically cleaned several manholes to ensure speedy drainage from storm water lines, given the moderate rainfall over the past two days.

Despite these efforts, some citizens, have expressed dissatisfaction, stating that many potholes re-emerge at the same spots where the PMC has carried out digging work for water pipelines. One citizen cited the road between Ahilya Devi Chowk and K K Market as an example, where the road is uneven and prone to waterlogging, with potholes appearing along the entire stretch.
