Pune Moves One Step Closer to Fulfilling its IIM Aspiration

Pune, July 4, 2026: The city’s long-pending dream of having an IIM campus is now a step closer to reality.
The Maharashtra government has cleared the allotment of 28 hectares of government land in Moshi, Pimpri-Chinchwad, to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur for setting up an educational and training centre. The Revenue and Forest Department issued a Government Resolution on Friday, approving the land transfer on a nominal lease of just Re 1 per year.
The land is part of Survey No. 327 (old Survey No. 325) in Moshi village, Haveli taluka. From this land, 28 hectares will be allotted to IIM Nagpur for academic purposes.
According to the GR dated July 03, the decision was taken following a cabinet meeting held on June 21, 2026. The state government had earlier proposed to allot the land at market rates, but the latest order now provides it on a token lease of Rs. 1/- per year, making the project financially viable.
The GR also states that the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will need to remove the existing ‘recreation complex’ reservation on the land and reclassify it as ‘educational purpose’ through a fresh proposal.
Local MLA Mahesh Landge hailed the decision as a historic moment for the region. In a social media post, he said the move will transform Pimpri-Chinchwad from just an industrial city into a global hub for education, research, and innovation.
“This is a major boost to our commitment to make Pimpri-Chinchwad an ‘Education Hub.’ Students will now have access to world-class management education, research, and new opportunities,” Landge stated.
The proposed IIM campus is expected to give a major push to the educational landscape of the city, creating a strong link between the industrial belt and higher learning institutions.
