Pune: Morning Traffic Jam at Punawale Underpass Causes Hours Long Delays
Pune, June 24, 2026: Morning traffic at the Punawale Underpass came to a complete standstill around 10:30 AM today, leaving hundreds of office-goers stranded in long queues.
Commuters complained about slow movement for a long time, with vehicles being stranded for prolonged durations. Continuous honking was reported as the situation worsened during peak office hours. The traffic pile-up stretched for several kilometres, with vehicles stuck bumper to bumper after the first spell of rain.
Locals added that the congestion is not new to this route. The underpass has become a recurring choke point, especially during peak hours and monsoon showers. The heavy jam also spilled over and started affecting traffic flow on the adjoining highway sections, causing delays beyond the immediate area.
By late morning, movement remained sluggish as traffic police worked to ease the buildup, but normal flow resumed after the morning rush got over.
