Main Water Supply Pipe Burst on Katraj–Kondhwa Main Road in Pune, Releasing 20-30 Feet High Jet of Water

Water Supply Pipe Burst

A major water supply pipeline burst at Gokul Nagar Chowk on the busy Katraj–Kondhwa Main Road in Pune on Saturday, sending a big jet of drinking water nearly 20 to 30 feet into the air.

The high-pressure burst created a fountain-like spray visible from a distance, spreading thousands of liters of treated water onto the streets before PMC team could intervene.

The continuous flow led to significant waterlogging around Gokul Nagar Chowk, slowing down traffic movement on the crucial stretch. Passing vehicles and two-wheelers were completely drenched by the powerful spray. While some commuters lightheartedly joked about getting a “free vehicle wash,” the unexpected deluge caused sudden braking and minor disruptions.

Local residents expressed deep concern over the massive wastage of drinking water, pointing out the irony of losing so much treated water while several areas across Pune continue to grapple with supply shortages.

Local citizens have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to complete the pipeline repairs swiftly and conduct preventive inspections on adjacent lines to avoid a repeat incident.
