Bengaluru Metro QR Code Ticketing: Now book upto six tickets through QR code and get discount too!

Bengaluru Metro QR Code Ticketing

Bengaluru Metro QR code ticketing is a significant advancement in public transport ticketing. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has announced the launch of a QR group ticketing system, specifically designed to cater to the needs of groups and families traveling together. This innovative facility, available from November 16, aims to streamline the ticketing process and reduce queues at metro stations.

Avoid Queues with BMRCL’s New QR Group Ticketing System

The QR group ticketing system allows up to six travelers to avail of tickets in one transaction. BMRCL’s initiative to provide mobile QR tickets offers a 5% discount on the token fare, encouraging passengers to utilize this convenient option. The passenger purchasing the group ticket will receive a single QR ticket, encrypted with the number of passengers. This ticket must be scanned for each group member at both entry and exit points, ensuring a hassle-free journey for all.

Key Features of the QR Ticketing System:

  • Group Convenience: Up to six passengers can use one QR ticket, making it ideal for families and groups.
  • Discount Offers: A 5% discount on the token fare for QR ticket users.
  • Advanced Booking: Passengers can book their tickets from the comfort of their homes or offices, avoiding queues at the stations.
  • Ease of Use: The QR ticket needs to be scanned just once for each passenger, simplifying the boarding process.

Namma Metro’s Technological Leap

In November last year, BMRCL initiated an online ticketing system and introduced a WhatsApp chatbot-based QR ticketing service. This move positioned BMRCL as a pioneer in global transit services, being the first to enable end-to-end QR ticketing on WhatsApp. As of September, BMRCL’s data revealed that 56.04% of commuters used smart cards, 43.91% opted for tokens, and a nascent 0.05% utilized group tickets.

The introduction of the Bengaluru Metro QR Code Ticketing system represents a significant leap in enhancing the convenience and efficiency of public transport in the city. By embracing technology and responding to passenger demands, BMRCL has set a benchmark for other transit services worldwide, making Bengaluru a model city for innovative and passenger-friendly metro services.
