Pimpri-Chinchwad to Get Country’s Most Modern Police Commissionerate, 50-Acre Headquarters Planned in Pune
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday has inaugurated various projects and laid the foundation stones for development works of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, outlining plans to strengthen the city’s policing infrastructure through modern technology and improved facilities.
The new Police Commissionerate building, whose design was personally overseen by the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is expected to become the most modern police commissionerate in the country once completed. The project had received an allocation of ₹180 crore during Ajit Pawar’s tenure.
A 50-acre site at Tathawade has been approved for the police headquarters, with the land records transferred. A state-of-the-art commissionerate building is being developed in Chikhli, while residential facilities for police officers and personnel, along with administrative buildings for traffic, cyber and other departments, are planned in Wakad.
Fadnavis said Pimpri-Chinchwad’s expansion is expected to surpass Pune’s in the coming years, making it necessary for the police force to strengthen its capabilities through modern technology. He praised the commissionerate’s performance in crime control through technology, social initiatives and faster investigations. (Pune News)
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has reduced its response time to emergency calls received through Dial 112 to three minutes, placing it first in Maharashtra, according to the information shared at the programme. AI-powered Tapas Sarathi, blockchain technology, an expanding CCTV network and body-worn cameras are also being used to improve crime detection, traffic management, investigation and coordination through the Command and Control System.
An Integrated Urban Surveillance Project has also been established to monitor criminal activities, traffic violations and crowds in real time.
Fadnavis also called for coordinated efforts to make Maharashtra drug-free, stressing that the fight against narcotics requires participation from all departments. He said the government aims to make the country narcotic-free within the next three to four years and appealed to citizens to protect young people from drug abuse.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said modern police infrastructure would support crime control and traffic regulation. He added that the government was working to provide police personnel with proper housing and essential facilities through a time-bound programme.
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar described the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony as an important step towards strengthening Pimpri-Chinchwad’s security infrastructure. She recalled that Ajit Pawar had approved ₹180 crore for the commissionerate building.
On the occasion, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate also handed over a cheque of ₹1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support drought-affected farmers in Maharashtra. The contribution was collected from police officers and personnel through deductions equivalent to one day’s salary. Fadnavis thanked the police force for the contribution.
The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge, Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure, MP Shrirang Barne, Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Chaube and other dignitaries.
