Pune Records Hottest October Since 2014 as IMD Forecasts Above-Normal Temperatures in November
Punekars experienced unusually high temperatures in October this year, with Pune recording its hottest October in at least 12 years, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data.
Pune’s Shivajinagar weather station recorded an average maximum temperature of 34.66°C during October 2026, the highest October average maximum temperature since at least 2014.
The heat coincided with an exceptionally dry October across Maharashtra. The state recorded 95% below-normal rainfall during the month, with Pune district also reporting a 95% rainfall deficit. (Pune News)
The situation was particularly severe in Marathwada, which received 99% below-normal rainfall, indicating almost no rainfall during the month. Vidarbha recorded a 96% rainfall deficit.
The IMD’s monthly outlook also points to above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures across the country during November.
According to the IMD, very strong El Niño conditions are currently prevailing over the Equatorial Pacific Ocean. Forecasts from the Monsoon Mission Coupled Forecast System (MMCFS) and other global climate models indicate that these conditions are likely to continue during November and December 2026.
Meanwhile, neutral Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions are prevailing over the Indian Ocean and are expected to continue through the post-monsoon season until December 2026.
With November also expected to see above-normal temperatures, Pune could continue to experience warmer-than-usual weather following an exceptionally hot October. (Pune News)
