This decision is taken to prevent overcrowding and ensure the safe movement of passengers during the festive period.

Platform tickets will remain available for people accompanying senior citizens, medical patients, children, illiterate passengers requiring reading or writing assistance, and women who need help with their journey.

A temporary passenger holding area spanning approximately 2,000 square metres, with seating for 3,500 people, has been set up near the ST bus stand on the Platform 1 side, adjacent to the parcel office and VIP area. The facility has seating, lighting, fans, drinking water, toilets, train information display boards and guidance staff.

Passengers with confirmed tickets can access platforms directly, while waitlisted and unreserved passengers will be directed to the holding area until their trains are announced. Barricaded queues have also been arranged on Platform 1 for heavily used northbound trains to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.

Pune Railway Station handles approximately 1.9 lakh passengers daily, with 117 originating trains and 279 passing trains operating across its six platforms. A total of 256 festival special train services are operating through Pune, Hadapsar and Khadki stations to destinations including Gorakhpur, Ghazipur City, Nagpur, New Amravati, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Sanganer and Muzaffarpur.

Unreserved special trains between Hadapsar and Muzaffarpur are operating with Amrit Bharat coaches, including general second-class unreserved and sleeper-class accommodation. Unreserved tickets can be purchased at UTS counters or through the UTS mobile app.

Railway authorities have deployed a dedicated nodal officer to oversee security, with Railway Protection Force personnel, security guards and senior officials on duty round the clock. The RPF deployment is also set to be strengthened.

Passengers have been advised to book unreserved tickets in advance through the UTS or RailOne apps, check platform numbers and train timings on the NTES app, and avoid touts offering unauthorised confirmed tickets. Fully waitlisted e-tickets cannot be used to travel in reserved coaches once charts have been prepared.

For assistance with security, medical emergencies, enquiries or complaints, passengers can call railway helpline 139 or use the RailMadad portal at railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in or the RailOne app.

A permanent 5,800-square-metre passenger holding area near the ST bus stand is scheduled to begin construction by December 2026.
