Maharashtra Announces Drought Relief Measures in 265 Talukas

Monsoon season in Maharashtra has ended with 18 percent rainfall deficit. The government has announced Triger-1 drought relief measures in 265 out of 358 talukas in the state.
A Government Resolution (GR) was issued in this regard by Maharashtra Government’s Relief and Rehabilitation Department on September 25, 2026.
Overall, around three-fourth area of the state has been declared as drought hit for the Kharif 2026 season and several measures have been announced to help farmers in the affected regions.
The government has announced a package of 12 relief measures for people residing in the notified areas affected by drought conditions under Trigger-1.
- Land revenue concession
- Restructuring of crop loans
- Recovery of agriculture related loans stayed.
- Concession to be provided in the electricity bills of agricultural water pumps. Bills of pumps upto 7.5 HP capacity have already been waived.
- Examination fees for schools and colleges will be waived in the affected areas.
- Employment Guarantee Scheme (ESC/Rohyo) norms will be relaxed to bring maximum number of people under the umbrella of these welfare schemes.
- Water tankers will be deployed to provide drinking water in the affected areas.
- Electricity connections to farmers’ agricultural water pumps in the affected talukas not to be disconnected.
- Arrangements will be made to prevent food grain shortages among farmers, laborers and others dependent on agricultural produce.
- Authorities will ensure availability of adequate fodder for the livestock.
- Water available for livestock maintenance will be ensured.
- Assistance for crop losses due to drought will be announced separately after completion of the prescirbed procedure.
In Pune, eight talukas have been included in the list of talukas affected by Tigger-1 of the drought conditions in Maharashtra. These are Bhor, Velhe, Khed, Shirur, Baramati, Indapur, Daund and Purandar.
