Pune: Bus Catches Fire on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Burns Down Completely; Passengers Safe
Pune, September 24, 2026: A double-decker tourist bus caught fire on the Pune-bound lane of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khalapur on Thursday morning. All 14 passengers on board escaped safely, with no injuries or casualties reported.
The fire broke out at around 7.37 am near Khalapur Toll Plaza. The location falls under the jurisdiction of Rasayani police station.
The bus was travelling towards Pune when it suddenly caught fire. The vehicle was completely gutted in the blaze.

After receiving information about the incident, personnel from IRB and the Devdoot Rescue Team reached the spot along with fire brigade officials. Firefighters from the Panvel Municipal Corporation and Khopoli Municipal Council were also involved in the operation.
The fire was later brought under control.
The cause of the fire and further details about the incident are yet to be ascertained.
