Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has ordered government departments to work to fixed deadlines to address traffic, road, public transport, power, water and waste-management problems in Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunje. The plan includes more PMPML buses, widening of six major roads, faster work on power substations and a regional water supply scheme, with weekly meetings to track progress.
The directions were issued at a high-level review meeting on Friday, attended by government departments and representatives from Hinjawadi, Maan and Marunje. Dudi asked the agencies involved to take coordinated and scientific measures instead of dealing with the area’s infrastructure problems separately.
Public transport is one of the immediate focus areas. Authorities are collecting company-wise travel data to understand how employees working in the IT hub commute. The information will be used to decide PMPML routes, bus frequency and bus-stop locations based on actual travel demand.
Between 20 and 30 additional PMPML buses are to be deployed for the area immediately. Hinjawadi will also be given priority when 500 new buses expected to join the PMPML fleet are distributed across routes.
Feeder bus services are also planned to connect metro stations with major IT offices and residential areas. Existing bus stops will be upgraded and beautified, while locations for new bus shelters and facilities near metro stations will be identified in consultation with local residents.
Road infrastructure is another part of the action plan. Six major roads have been identified for priority widening, with a December 1 deadline set for completing land acquisition and starting physical widening work.
Electricity poles and underground utility cables obstructing road stretches will have to be shifted to make way for the widening. The departments concerned have been asked to prepare the required cost estimates immediately.
Service roads have also been taken up for urgent work. Authorities have been directed to complete full tarring and asphalting of these roads within 10 to 15 days.
Recurring power outages in the area are to be addressed by speeding up the proposed electricity substations at Lavale and Mahalunge. Advance possession of the required land is to be used so that land-related procedures do not hold up the projects.
The administration has also directed faster execution of the regional water supply scheme. Land required for the scheme is to be allocated immediately to prevent delays in the work.
Waste management has been given separate deadlines. Housing societies have been asked to put functional local waste collection and processing systems in place within seven days. A joint waste-management action plan covering the local gram panchayats is to be prepared within one month.
The Collector has asked all departments involved to work within the timelines set at the meeting. Progress on the different measures will be reviewed continuously, beginning with weekly follow-up meetings to check whether departments are meeting their targets.
