Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police Penalise Over 8,400 Vehicles for Modified Silencers and Noise Pollution Since January
The Pimpri Chinchwad traffic police have penalised 8,481 two-wheelers across the industrial twin city since January this year for using modified silencers and illegal pressure horns. The ongoing drive follows a surge in noise pollution complaints from residents living along major arterial roads and residential pockets.
Traffic department officials initiated the targeted crackdown after daily commuter feedback and emergency distress calls highlighted an increase in high-decibel exhausts late at night. Local enforcement teams have been deploying mobile checkpoints near major intersections to impound non-compliant vehicles and issue spot fines.
To improve response times and streamline enforcement, the traffic branch has integrated its operational tracking with the state’s emergency response system. Authorities said citizens reporting noise violations on the Dial 112 helpline allow control rooms to log exact GPS coordinates, enabling interceptor teams to reach flagged locations within minutes.
The police administration is utilizing data gathered from these incoming calls to map chronic noise pollution hotspots and identify frequently targeted road stretches across the city. Special night squads will be posted along these high-complaint corridors in the coming phases to enforce silencer modifications and curb illegal street racing.
