Pune: Keshawnagar-Kharadi Flyover Opens to Traffic, Cutting 6 km Detour and Daily Commute Times

Keshawnagar Kharadi Flyover Inaugurated in Pune

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Muralidhar Mohol inaugurated the long-awaited Keshawnagar-Kharadi flyover near Godrej Infinity in Mundhwa on Sunday afternoon, opening a direct elevated link between the two fast-growing eastern suburbs of Pune.

Built at a cost of ₹23 crore against an sanctioned tender amount of ₹23.47 crore, the 24-metre-wide two-way flyover spans a total length of 411.40 metres across seven spans of 35.2 metres each, anchored by a 125-metre approach road on the Keshawnagar end and a 40-metre approach on the Kharadi side.

The new structure will eliminate a six-kilometre detour for commuters travelling between Keshawnagar and Kharadi, who previously had to navigate congested narrow bypasses and surface intersections around Mundhwa and Hadapsar.

Civic officials said the direct connection is expected to reduce travel time by nearly 30 minutes during peak hours while significantly cutting down vehicle idling time, fuel consumption, and local traffic noise in residential pockets along the Mula-Mutha riverbed belt.

The elevated stretch primarily targets severe commuter bottlenecks created by rapid residential construction in Keshawnagar and expanding commercial footfall near the EON Free Zone and surrounding IT parks in Kharadi.

Commuters from neighbouring areas, including Wagholi, Wadgaon Sheri, and Mundhwa, are also set to experience reduced traffic pressure along the primary arterial bypass routes connecting Hadapsar with the Pune-Ahmednagar highway.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mohol said the project marks a key infrastructure transition for the eastern corridor, noting that initial administrative approvals and site work were sanctioned during his previous tenure leading the Pune Municipal Corporation standing committee.

Pune Municipal Corporation officials confirmed that final resurfacing and signage checks were completed earlier this month, allowing immediate movement of two-way light motor vehicle and public transport traffic across the bridge.

The municipal corporation plans to monitor traffic distribution over the next month to adjust signal timings at connecting feeder roads in Mundhwa and Kharadi to prevent bottleneck formation at the approach ramps.
