Bharat Taxi Expands Cooperative Mobility Network, Registers 8.48 Lakh Drivers
New Delhi, August 12, 2026: Bharat Taxi, a cooperative-led digital mobility platform operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL), has expanded its services across multiple cities, with 8.48 lakh drivers and 44.27 lakh customers registered as of August 4, according to the Union government.
The platform is currently operational in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, with services also being reported in cities including Lucknow and Chandigarh. Bharat Taxi was facilitating 11,106 rides a day as of August 4 and has enabled cumulative earnings of ₹83.70 crore for its registered drivers, known as Sarathis.
Bharat Taxi operates on a cooperative model designed around driver participation and earnings. One of its key features is a zero-commission model, under which drivers do not pay a commission on rides. The platform also follows subscription-based participation and transparent fare structures without hidden charges.
The cooperative model also provides for social security measures such as insurance coverage and welfare linkages for driver-members. The company is seeking to expand through partnerships with state governments, cooperative institutions and public bodies.
Delhi-NCR recorded the highest average daily rides at 5,574, followed by Gujarat with 3,817. Pune recorded 632 daily rides, while Jaipur had 372, Lucknow 324, Mumbai 197 and Chandigarh 190.
The rollout is being undertaken in phases, covering driver registration and onboarding, customer enrolment, training and expansion into identified cities and states. Further expansion will depend on operational preparedness, availability of drivers, completion of statutory requirements and coordination with state governments and other stakeholders.
Bharat Taxi is operated by STCL, a multi-state cooperative society registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. The government said no financial support has been provided for the expansion of the platform.
The government has also clarified that Bharat Taxi and West Bengal’s Yatri Sathi are separate mobility platforms operating under different institutional frameworks. Bharat Taxi is operated by STCL, while Yatri Sathi was developed and is operated by the Department of Information Technology and Electronics of the West Bengal government.
However, the two platforms are set to collaborate following a memorandum of understanding signed between STCL and the West Bengal government on July 19. Under the agreement, Bharat Taxi will support Yatri Sathi in areas including driver enrolment, cooperative membership, driver welfare and public outreach.
The latest figures were provided by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah in written replies to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
