Pune Ghat Areas to Continue Receiving Heavy to Extremely Heavy Rain as IMD Extends Red Alert Till July 24
It has been raining heavily across the entire Pune district but very heavy to extremely heavy rain has been reported from the ghats located on the western peripheries of the district.
IMD has extended the red alert for tomorrow, July 24, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Strong winds reaching 50 -60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are also very likely.
Meanwhile, Pune city will likely receive moderate rain tomorrow. The city has already crossed the highest July rainfall since 2014 already after crossing the 400 mm mark at Shivajinagar on Wednesday.
Tamhini, a pass located in the Western Ghats around 40-60 min drive from Pune has already crossed 4519 mm of rainfall this season.
Meanwhile, the collective storage in Pune’s dams has crossed 20 TMC and the authorities have announced reversal of alternate day water supply to daily water supply, much to the relief of Pune residents.
Elsewhere in Maharashtra, entire Konkan region remains under yellow and orange alerts for heavy rain on July 24. Ghats of Nashik and Satara will also be under orange alert watch tomorrow, expecting heavy rain. Mumbai is likely to receive heavy rainfall along with strong winds reaching 50-60 kmph and some gusts reaching to 70 kmph.
Most Vidarbha districts are on yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightening and rain tomorrow.
