Mahindra’s Chakan Plant in Pune Crosses 3-Million Vehicle Milestone as Electric BE 6 Rolls Off the Line
Mahindra & Mahindra has hit a massive milestone at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, rolling out its 3-millionth vehicle. In a symbolic nod to the company’s future roadmap, the landmark unit to cross the assembly line was the all-electric BE 6 SUV.
The 657-acre mega-plant has come a long way since its first vehicle rolled out in December 2009. While it took the facility 107 months to hit its first million mark, manufacturing efficiency has spiked dramatically. The latest one million vehicles were produced in just 27 months, demonstrating a massive scaling up of operations driven by skyrocketing demand.
Currently, the Chakan hub builds 19 models and over 450 variants across passenger and commercial vehicle segments. Equipped with Industry 4.0 systems, AI, and 1,500 advanced robots, the facility boasts over 98% automation in its body shop. Beyond catering heavily to the domestic market, the vehicles built here fuel Mahindra’s global footprint, with key export markets including South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
The plant has also heavily integrated sustainable practices. More than half of Chakan’s total energy footprint is sourced from renewables—with the EV assembly lines running on 100% green electricity. The facility is also certified water-positive and maintains a strict Zero Waste to Landfill status.
