Khadakwasla Dam Nearly Full; Pune Mayor Visits Low Lying Areas Early Morning as Water Release Increases

Pune, July 08, 2026: Due to incessant rains in Pune for the last one week, all the reservoirs located around the city are experiencing above-normal inflow of water from their catchment areas.
Khadakwasla Dam, being located at the downstream of Panshet, Warasgaon and Temghar Dams and being smaller, gets filled up fast. As of last night, the dam had reached 94 percent of its storage capacity at 1.84 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet).
Consequently, water discharge had started around midnight at the rate of 800 cusecs. Since it heavy rain has continued throughout the night, the rate of water discharge has now been increased to 27203 cusecs into the Mutha river channel.
This will cause the river level to rise considerably. The administration has strictly entering the river or venturing nears its banks. Also people living near its banks should stay vigilant in case the discharge is further increased.
Pune Mayor Manjusha Deepak Nagpure conducted an inspection of Ekta Nagar and Vitthal Nagar areas at 5:30 AM where there is a possibility of water entering the societies.
