Land Acquisition Begins for Aeorocity Near Upcoming Purandar Airport in Pune
Pune, July 4, 2026: The Pune district administration has started acquiring land for the proposed Aerocity that will built around the upcoming Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport at Purandar. The is another important step in the development of the new international airport project.
Officials have started acquiring an additional 253.21 hectares (around 625 acres) of land for the Aerocity. The project will include hotels, convention centres, developed commercial plots and other supporting facilities around the airport. The administration has set August 15, 2026, as the deadline to complete this land acquisition.
At the same time, land acquisition for the main airport is progressing rapidly. Since May 4, 2026, around 2,430 acres, or nearly 85 percent of the required land, has already been acquired. The deadline for acquiring the remaining land has now been pushed to July 15, 2026.
Officials said many landowners have agreed to give their land through mutual consent. However, some legal and administrative issues are delaying the completion of the remaining acquisition process.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the airport is being prepared and is expected to be completed by September 2026. Once the DPR is approved, the tendering process for the airport’s construction is expected to begin immediately.
The proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport will feature two parallel runways, each measuring 4,000 metres long and 60 metres wide, allowing operations by all types of wide-body aircraft.
The airport is planned to handle up to 75 million passengers annually, providing long-term capacity for the Pune metropolitan region. Road connectivity to the airport is also being developed through the proposed ring road project.
If work continues as planned, the new airport is expected to welcome its first commercial flight sometime in 2029.
