Pune Scorches at 41.4°C in Hottest May Day in Nearly a Decade

Pune, May 10, 2026 – The historic heat has arrived. Pune’s core observatory at Shivajinagar recorded a blistering 41.4 degrees Celsius today – a full 3.4 degrees above normal – marking the highest maximum temperature for the city in the month of May since at least 2016.
Dr. Vineet Kumar, a research scientist on cyclones, confirmed the milestone on social media, noting that data going back nearly a decade shows no higher May reading for the Shivajinagar belt.
While Shivajinagar led the district, the heat was relentless across the metropolitan region. According to the temperature table released for May 10, Koregaon Park and Wadgaonsheri tied at 40.9°C, followed closely by Dudulgaon (40.7°C) and Talegaon (40.6°C).
Other notable scorchers include:
- Chinchwad: 39.9°C
- Baramati: 39.8°C
- Magarapatta & Lavale: 39.7°C each
- Rajgurunagar: 39.5°C
- Ambegaon: 39.0°C
The only slight respite, if one can call it that, was in the cooler pockets of Shirur (37.0°C) and Nimgiri (37.3°C).
No Relief Next Week
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that this heat spell is far from over. For the coming week, the maximum temperature across Pune and surrounding areas is expected to remain squarely between 40°C and 42°C.
Residents are advised to stay indoors between 12 PM and 4 PM, keep themselves hydrated, and watch for signs of heatstroke. With the mercury refusing to ease, Pune is staring at one of its most punishing May heatwaves in recent memory.
