Good News for Wakad Residents: PCMC Clears 1500 Sq M in Wakad for Road Widening
WAKAD, PIMPRI-CHINCHWAD – In a significant move to de-congest one of the city’s fastest-growing hubs, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) executed a major anti-encroachment drive in the Wakad–Mhatoba Nagar area on Tuesday. The operation successfully cleared approximately 1,500 square meters of land designated for a critical 24-meter Development Plan (DP) road.
The drive, led by Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, resulted in the removal of 41 unauthorized huts and structures that had stalled the planned widening of the DP road. The action comes as part of a broader administrative push to ensure that infrastructure projects keep pace with the city’s rapid urban expansion.
A Multi-Departmental Operation
The enforcement action was carried out under the direct guidance of PCMC Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi and Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor. Reflecting the scale of the task, the operation saw seamless coordination between several civic wings, including:
- Engineering and Town Planning Departments
- Slum Rehabilitation and Removal Department
- Urban Transport and Electrical Departments
- The Fire Brigade and the Maharashtra Security Force
Civic officials emphasized that maintaining the sanctity of “reserved land” is vital for the city’s future. By clearing these 1,500 square meters, the PCMC aims to eliminate bottlenecks that have historically delayed public utility projects.

Infrastructure as Quality of Life
Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi framed the drive not merely as an enforcement tactic, but as a necessity for urban survival.
“Considering the rising population and increasing traffic pressure, road widening is directly linked to improving the daily lives of citizens,” Dr. Suryawanshi stated. “Removing encroachments is essential to strengthen our major roads and ensure that Pimpri-Chinchwad remains organized and efficient for future growth.”
The municipal administration has issued a stern appeal to residents to refrain from unauthorized construction on reserved plots. Officials warned that such encroachments create significant obstacles for public welfare projects and will inevitably face demolition under standing regulations.
Looking Ahead
As Wakad continues to attract new residents and businesses, the PCMC has reiterated that public cooperation is the cornerstone of successful urban development. The clearing of the Mhatoba Nagar stretch marks a key milestone in the 24-meter DP road project, promising smoother transit and improved connectivity for thousands of daily commuters.
