Rough Weather to Continue in Maharashtra as IMD Issues Alerts; Orange for 6 and Yellow for 13 Districts

Maharashtra Weather Update

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather warning for Maharashtra, placing several districts under Orange and Yellow alerts. A combination of atmospheric instability and moisture incursion is expected to trigger thunderstorms, gusty winds, and hailstorms across the state over the next 48 hours.

Residents across all administrative divisions, Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Konkan, Amravati, and Nagpur, are advised to take necessary precautions.

Today’s Forecast: Severe Hail and Thunderstorm Warnings

The weather activity today is widespread, with the most intense conditions concentrated in North Maharashtra and Marathwada.

Orange Alert: Hailstorm and High-Velocity Winds

An Orange Alert has been issued for the following districts, where thunderstorms will be accompanied by lightning, hail, and powerful gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph:

  • Jalgaon (Nashik Division)
  • Ahilyanagar (formerly Ahmednagar), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, and Hingoli (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division)

Yellow Alert: Thunderstorms and Moderate Rain

A Yellow Alert is in place for several regions, predicting lightning, light to moderate rain, and winds of 30–40 kmph:

  • Nashik Division: Dhule, Nashik, and the Nashik Ghat areas.
  • Pune Division: Pune, Pune Ghats, and Solapur.
  • Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division: Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv.
  • Amravati Division: Akola, Amravati, and Buldhana.
  • Nagpur Division: Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Yavatmal.

Tomorrow’s Forecast: Shifting Rainfall Patterns

While the intensity of the storms is expected to decrease slightly by tomorrow, the eastern and central parts of the state remain under watch.

Yellow Alert: Continued Thunderstorm Activity

Lightning and moderate showers with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) will persist in:

  • Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, and Hingoli.
  • Nanded (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Division).
  • Gadchiroli and Gondia (Nagpur Division).

Green Alert: Improving Conditions

The remainder of the state, including the Konkan Division (Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg) and parts of the Nagpur Division (Nagpur, Wardha, and Bhandara) along with Satara and Sangli in the Pune Division, will see a transition to Green. These areas can expect light rain or predominantly dry weather.

Safety Guidelines

  • Farmers: Protect harvested produce and move livestock to safer shelters due to the hail threat in Jalgaon and Marathwada.
  • Commuters: Be cautious of reduced visibility and slippery roads during sudden thundershowers.
  • General Public: Avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during lightning and high winds.
